California shooting: Thousand Oaks restaurant Borderline Bar and Grill attacked

USA fire department officials reported multiple injuries in a shooting at a country music bar and dance hall in southern California late Wednesday.

"We're still looking for the shooter".

Ventura County Sheriff's Office Captain Garo Kuredjian said it is "still an active scene". "At this point I can confirm six victims". The witness, who escaped unharmed with his stepson, said he saw the gunman shoot multiple people. "These poeple have never hurt anyone in their lives, they are just kids", he said.

A gunman armed with smoke grenades and a handgun reportedly opened fire at a bar and grill in California, resulting in multiple injuries.

At 11:55pm, law enforcement reported that a California Highway Patrol officer had engaged a suspect and that a man matching the description was down with three gunshot wounds.

Authorities say 11 people including sheriff's deputy shot at Southern California bar; no deaths yet confirmed.

Nick Steinwender, who is part of the university's student government, said his friends were inside the bar when the shooting started. Its website listed Wednesday's event as college country night between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.

"I was at the front door and I was talking to my stepdad".

Police told the Los Angeles Times that at least 30 shots were fired at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, which is about 60km west of Los Angeles.

This is a developing story.
