Rebel Wilson doubles down after being slammed for plus-size comments

Rebel made the comments last week, and when people pointed out that the likes of Mo'Nique and Queen Latifah had led romcoms before she initially questioned whether they counted as plus-sized. "Again, I am deeply sorry", she said ending her Twitter thread.

While the audience cheered, it didn't take long for many on Twitter to raise their digital eyebrow and counter Wilson's claim by mentioning actresses Mo'Nique and Queen Latifah. Next, Wilson's choice to block people of color for criticizing her also makes her seem not only unwilling to listen, but unwilling to listen to voices different from her own.

Rebel also said she would be addressing this controversy when she's starts doing press for the film (clever girl!), but the fact that several black Twitter users claimed they were blocked by the actress for trying to start a dialogue with her certainly doesn't help her case. And then, I don't know if it was mega-conscious, but I thought, 'How can I get more laughs?

The Pitch Perfect star added: 'But it was questionable as to whether: 1. "So there's a slight grey area."⠀⠀⠀⠀.

Twitter was quick to point out, however, that Wilson overlooked a number of plus-size actresses who've starred in romantic comedies before.

Her upcoming film Isn't It Romantic, directed by Todd Strauss-Schulson shows the actor stuck in a parallel-universe with her life becoming a romantic-comedy after an accident with a mugger.

Monique subsequently tweeted Wilson, asking her not to allow this business "to erase our talent with giving grey areas and technicalities" and urged her to "take a moment and know the history". "Technically those films are categorized/billed [sic] as a studio rom-com with a sole lead", she wrote.

Others flagged another romantic comedy, also released in 2006, distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures and named Phat Girlz, which stars plus-size actress Mo'Nique.
