Amazon Building in Baltimore Collapses During Tornado, Killing 2

Two men were killed in a partial building collapse at an Amazon facility in Baltimore late Friday in an incident resulting from severe weather, a company executive confirmed Saturday.

One of them was pulled from the rubble overnight Friday and died at the hospital. Officials say a 50-foot wall at the warehouse collapsed.

A second body was found on Saturday morning.

Amazon spokeswoman Rachael Lighty attributed the collapse to "severe weather" in a statement sent to multiple media outlets. Both people were third party contractors and not Amazon employees. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by yesterday's tragic event".

Officials are still considering the Amazon warehouse an "active scene" and said that firefighters would keep sifting through debris to ensure that there were no other victims buried beneath.

The images shared by news agencies and local people from outside the spot showed a badly damaged truck and a knocked over the light pole.

The Weather Service's report came after it sent damage-assessment teams to the Baltimore/Dundalk area and to Mount Airy to see whether tornadoes had touched down there.

Roofs were reported to have been blown off apartment buildings in Dundalk, Maryland, while sections of ceilings were said to have fallen in at the Twin Arch Shopping Center's TJ Maxx and HomeGoods store.
