Lakers coach Walton confident of management support

Lakers coach Walton confident of management support

Following practice on Friday, Walton was asked about his standing with the Lakers and he was very confident about his status as the team's head coach.

Their 3-5 start reflects those struggles.

And while many will point to the track record of James and coaches getting fired, the same report suggests that James has been supportive of Walton privately as much as publicly. "We know where we're going, we know how to get there, and it takes time and it takes hard work".

Remember, it was Ball who called out Walton last season and said he had lost the Lakers' locker room, and although Walton brushed off the comments with some humor, Ball's comments echoed through the media for weeks.

"We need to figure out how we can string together some great games or even good games and bring our win total from where it is now".

"We're still in the real early stages".

Johnson had previously preached patience for the team's young roster to develop around star LeBron James, but Wojnarowski reports "evidence is mounting" that Walton could be fired if the Lakers fail to improve significantly moving forward. According to Tania Ganguli and Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, even though Johnson was mad at Walton in their meeting, he doesn't make "rash" decisions and Walton's job is safe. He says he is focused on blocking out the noise and winning as many games as possible in his first season in Los Angeles.

"As I was talking to Luke [with Pelinka], we said, 'Don't worry about if we get out to a bad start, '" Johnson told reporters in September. "We knew it was going to be like that from the summer when 'Zo had the knee surgery. But again, the actual things being said, that's private front-office/coach stuff".
