Georgia's Democratic Candidate For Governor Calls For Banning AR-15's

Abrams, a Yale-educated lawyer who served a decade in the Georgia Legislature, would be the first black female governor in American history.

Winfrey is part of a caravan of high-profile figures marking the final days of Abrams' tight race with Republican Brian Kemp.

"This isn't a surprise since his entire career has been defined by his failure to keep his commitments", Abrams' campaign manager said.

Pence is scheduled to appear with Republican nominee Brian Kemp at three rallies around the state. The former president will also be campaigning on behalf of Abrams, who he has endorsed.

The newspaper said today that more than 1.5 million Georgians have taken advantage of early voting ahead of Tuesday's election, a number more than double the total from 2014. She is expected to speak about why she supports Abrams' campaign.

She added a note to the throng of media gathered for the event, urging against any reboot of recent speculation that she might run for president in 2020.

Democratic candidate for Georgia Governor Stacey Abrams waves to supporters after speaking at an election-night watch party, May 22, 2018, in Atlanta.

"I appreciate your honesty that you want to ban it", McCain said again. If elected, Abrams would be the first black woman elected governor in the United States.

Then she encouraged women of all races - "sisters ... not just 'sistahs,"' she joked - to remember that they would have been "just a piece of property" with no ballot barely a century ago. Kemp has embraced Trump and echoed the president's hard-line policies on immigration, and he's focused much of his campaigning in the state's more conservative pockets beyond metro Atlanta.

That could mean that events that energize the base, like a rally with Trump or Obama, could carry more weight than a debate less than 48 hours before Election Day.
