Diablo Immortal is the mobile Diablo game nobody asked for

Blizzard's previous promises of "multiple Diablo projects" bore fruit during the keynote with the announcement of Diablo Immortal, a "full-fledged action-RPG you can play everywhere with everyone".

Pre-registration links are already live at Google Play, and the game's listing confirms the game's inclusion of six familiar-sounding character classes (Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard) who can join forces in online co-op dungeon-crawling.

Diablo: Immortal tells the story between Diablo II and Diablo III, filling in details on what unfolded with Tyrael, Malthael, and others.

As you charge through Diablo III's five story acts, you'll collect gear from Sanctuary's furthest reaches, including legendary items that change your entire playstyle and armor sets that provide dynamic bonuses as you uncover more pieces. The partnership with NetEase is another indication that Diablo Immortal may not have been targeted at NA/EU. It will include touch controls which will allow players to begin an ability, charge it up, aim it, and fire it from just a single thumb input. Other developers have been creating their own Diablo clones for years and years on the mobile platform with great success (from a commercial and consumer feedback point of view). As of the writing of this article, the game's cinematic launch trailer has 2k likes and 54k dislikes on YouTube. Blizzard said it "want [s] to do it in a way that's true to Blizzard, putting gameplay first, in a way that feels right for Diablo". There was no announcement of a Diablo 2 or Diablo remaster.

According to Blizzard, the game will be a, "living, breathing, and constantly evolving experience".

If you stuck around to the end of BlizzCon's opening ceremonies you were probably waiting for a big announcement regarding the future of the Diablo franchise.

Blizzard says the game is "coming soon", although the publisher has yet to confirm a specific release date.
