The study found 25 per cent lower rates of cancer diagnosis among those that consume the most organic food.

The authors theorize a "possible explanation" for the negative relationship between organic food and cancer risk stems from the "significant" reduction of contamination that occurs when conventional foods are replaced by organic foods.

The health benefit was far greater for obese people.

New research has been released about whether or not organic food can actually reduce the risk of cancer.

"A recent review concluded that the role of pesticides for the risk of cancer could not be doubted given the growing body of evidence linking cancer development to pesticide exposure". That's because the rules farmers must follow in order to use the organic label generally prohibit the use of synthetic pesticides (although pesticides based on natural compounds like hydrogen peroxide and soaps are allowed). They are often fresher because they don't contain preservatives.

You can protect yourself from cancer by eating organic, a new study suggests. Specifically, they are 73 percent less likely to develop non-Hodgkin lymphoma and 21 percent less likely to be diagnosed with post-menopause breast cancer.

Lead by a French institute, the team studied almost 70,000 French adults over 4.5 years. The cohort was followed for seven years to investigate the incidence of cancer.

He said eating a heart-healthy diet, whether specifically organic or not, is beneficial for reducing our risk of all cancers.

"In general, we know that healthier diets are better for you from cancer risk", said Dr. Shepard.

"Regarding the latter association, previous occupational data have indicated a potential interaction between obesity and pesticide use on cancer risk". Chemicals also can disrupt the endocrine system. Some of the specific cancers avoided are non-Hodgkin lymphoma and postmenopausal breast cancer write the researchers. All of these things are associated with a lower risk of cancer. The separation experts take into account the presence in the diet of 16 organic products, including fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, ready meals, vegetable fats, seasonings and food additives.

The participants were observed for a period of more than four years, with a number of 1,340 cancers registered during the timeframe. Most common were breast cancers, prostate cancers, skin cancers, colorectal cancers and lymphomas. This is just the beginning of trying to understand whether or not organic foods may impact health in general and cancer risk in particular.

The commentary said concerns over pesticide risks should not discourage intake of conventional fruits and vegetables, especially because organic produce is often expensive and inaccessible to many populations. Most of the people involved in this study were to be educated, high income and a healthy lifestyle.
