Spencer said deputies searched through the neighbourhood when the child was found on Wednesday night, but no one answered the door at the father's house. The father told investigators that when the child never arrived, he assumed plans had changed. Investigators could not immediately confirm these details.

The sheriff's office said the child appeared to be in good health. He was been taken into custody by Child Protective Services. The mother said she was in the hospital on Wednesday and had a friend drop the boy off.

"Had she waited just seven seconds, the home owner would have opened the door and maybe would've started a conversation, dialogue to direct her to the correct house to drop the child off", Spencer said. Authorities are weighing child abandonment charges.

Reporters who were in the neighborhood Thursday spoke to a man who identified himself as the boy's father after recognizing his child from the doorbell video. He confirmed the child in the video is Prince Simmons, ABC7 reported.

Raw video: Woman in Texas is caught on camera leaving a 2-year-old boy on a porch and driving away. During their interview detectives learned that the father of the child received a text from the mother of the child advising the child was going to be dropped off in the early afternoon at the residence by a friend of hers.

He said it's possible she could face a child abandonment charge. She runs toward the doors with the child in hand, rings the door bell, knocks, and then leaves, police said. "It was very alarming and it was very disturbing and my heart was hurting for that child", Spencer said.

A spokeswoman for Child Protective Services told the Chronicle that the child was "safe, healthy, no signs of abuse and is happy", and that the department was investigating the circumstances around his care.

Anyone with information is asked to call Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at 936-760-5800 or contact Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-STOP (7867) and refer to case No. 18A299244. Now that the child has been returned to his family, the freaky reason why he was left has finally been revealed. It's still unclear, however, why she left the boy alone on the porch.
