Samsung launches Snapdragon 850-powered Windows 2-in-1

Samsung launches Snapdragon 850-powered Windows 2-in-1

The Galaxy Tab S4 runs Samsung Experience UI based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Home, its smart speaker with Bixby, at the event. Galaxy Tab S4 will be available on Amazon from October 20. The dimensions of the Samsung Book 2 are also similar with a 12-inch display with a presumably kindred weight metric.

Compared to the previous Galaxy Book, the second-gen model's new kickstand is way more stable and makes it much easier to adjust the screen's angle, and despite its detachable nature, the Galaxy Book 2's keys have an ample amount of spring and key travel.

The Galaxy Book 2 will be available on November 2nd for $1,000 on Microsoft, Samsung and AT&T's websites, and through Verizon and Sprint later this year. There's a 10.5-inch WQXGA (2560x1600 pixels) sAMOLED display and is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor along with 4GB RAM.

The device will also utilize Samsung's S Pen, that is included in the box, to take advantage of Windows 10's inking support. You get two USB-C ports, an 8Mp rear camera and fingerprint sensor. The positive there is that the S Pen seems nearly impossibly light. For now, the Galaxy Book 2 offers a few compelling features that differentiate it from its rivals, but we'll have to spend more time with it to know if it'll truly stand out. The other colours have a matching colour S-pen. As with other Windows on Arm machines we've seen, the big selling points for the Galaxy Book 2 are battery life and always-on connectivity, courtesy of the Snapdragon chipset's LTE modem.

"Paired with Samsung Dex and S Pen, Galaxy Tab S4 is designed for those who need something portable like a tablet yet capable like a PC", Aditya Babbar, General Manager, Mobile Business, Samsung India, told reporters here.

Babbar said that 2-in-1 category is growing at the CAGR of 9 percent and expect 31.4 million devices will be sold in India by 2021. The device has advanced usability options with the help of Samsung DeX. Additionally, some apps didn't work well without the proper drivers (I attempted to install VPN software to no avail), so I'm looking forward to using Samsung's new slate and seeing how well Windows performance and software compatibility has improved.
