Boxing champion Saul Alvarez signs 'richest sports contract ever'

Boxing champion Saul Alvarez signs 'richest sports contract ever'

The broadcast deal is the richest contract signed by an athlete since New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. "The most important thing is that fans can enjoy this fight at a very low price".

John Skipper, executive chairman of Perform Group, DAZN's parent company, had the following to say on the deal being made. "He's extremely happy", De La Hoya told ESPN.

When asked why he didn't wait for the victor of the October 27 Danny Jacobs-Sergiy Derevyanchenko fight - especially considering that the former guaranteed that he would knock Alvarez out - Canelo's eyes widened for a moment, but he was largely unbothered.

Alvarez will move up in weight to challenge WBA super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding on December 15 at Madison Square Garden.

Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) is coming off a victory over Gennady Golovkin in a middleweight showdown in September.

"If he wants to return, I ask him to look my way to give a great fight to the fans". Unlike most high profile boxing events, Álvarez's matches - like the upcoming fight against Rocky Fielding on December 15th at Madison Square Garden - will not be behind a pay-per-view wall. However, his fights on DAZN will not be part of a pay-per-view deal but will instead be accessible to viewers who pay $9.99 a month for a streaming service showing a package of combat sports. I'd love to have the opportunity to prove myself at this point in my career.

England's Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) is largely unknown in the US but brings with him a substantial size advantage as a former light heavyweight.

Alvarez, 28, is from Mexico.

Gomez said Alvarez is committed to fighting 11 times during the deal and willing to fight any of the contenders at 160 or 168 pounds.

DAZN charges its subscribers Dollars 9.99 per month for a range of combat sports content.

The move represents the latest coup for DAZN, which only launched in the USA in September after announcing a landmark US$1 billion joint venture with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing in what was described as the biggest deal in the sport's history.

"This is easily one of the best days in the growing history of Golden Boy Promotions", said De La Hoya, speaking to ESPN.

Or maybe one of those DAZN fights is a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr., who represents the sole loss on Alvarez's record.
