Who is Jamal Khashoggi?

Who is Jamal Khashoggi?

Pompeo told reporters as he departed Riyadh that neither side would talk about the "facts" of the case before Saudi officials were able to complete a "thorough investigation" into the journalist's disappearance.

Until Monday, Riyadh had not allowed Turkish investigators to search the consulate, with reports both sides were at odds over the conditions.

Khashoggi's fate has troubled Washington and Saudi Arabia's other traditional Western allies.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham said Tuesday the United States should "sanction the hell out of Saudi Arabia" over the incident and said he would never again work with the crown prince, assailing him as "toxic" and calling him a "wrecking ball".

The top USA diplomat will be in Turkey today to meet Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. Turkish officials say they believe Saudi agents killed and dismembered Khashoggi and say Turkey has audio and video recordings of it.

What has come out of the Pompeo meeting?

Yeni Safak did not say how the tapes came into existence or how it obtained them. "I don't want to get into his mind, but it sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers". "We have said before that Saudi Arabia must cooperate with us in every aspect without delay".

Mr Pompeo is expected in Turkey later.

"I think we have to find out what happened first", he said. "If they knew about it, that would be bad", he said, reflecting on the matter to Fox Business.

Khashoggi vanished on October 2 after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

A Saudi official, not authorized to speak publicly, told Reuters that the king had ordered an internal investigation based on information from the joint team in Istanbul.

Trump cited the Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman's denial in a series of tweets.

What are U.S. media reporting?

On Monday, CNN cited two sources as saying the Saudis are preparing a report that Khashoggi's death resulted from a botched interrogation.

Al-Harbi and Alzahrani have the same names as two people who have been identified as members of the Saudi Royal Guard, the Times said.

An 11-member Saudi investigation team arrived at the consul's Istanbul residence, broadcaster CNN Turk said. Al-Otaibi left Turkey on Tuesday afternoon, Turkish state media reported.

The Turkish investigators, some wearing overalls, gloves and covered shoes. stayed for about nine hours, leaving in the early hours of Tuesday.

A source has claimed Jamal Khashoggi was butchered alive in a brutal seven-minute execution after reportedly hearing audio of the missing journalist's horrifying last moments.

What allegedly happened in Istanbul? The statement would pin blame on intelligence officials rather than Saudi leaders, alleging that an interrogation attempt had gone wrong and Khashoggi, who is a US resident and an opinion writer at the Washington Post, was killed without authorization.

Reports suggest an assault and struggle took place in the consulate after Mr Khashoggi went to get paperwork for his forthcoming marriage. The Saudi government didn't respond to a request for comment.

"We hope the police will enter to the residence today".
