Injured Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool for treatment

Injured Mohamed Salah returns to Liverpool for treatment

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping Salah's injury does turn out to be a minor problem.

"Coach Javier Aguirre has made a decision to allow Salah to return to Liverpool to give him extra rest, as medical scans revealed that it would be hard to get him fit for Tuesday's match", said an Egyptian Football Association statement on Saturday.

Mohamed Salah has only suffered a muscle strain rather than a rupture after limping out of Egypt's 4-1 win over Swaziland, according to assistant coach Hany Ramzy.

Mohamed Salah may not yet have hit the extraordinary heights of last season with Liverpool in the current campaign, but on Friday with Egypt, the winger scored a fabulous goal direct from a corner kick.

Egypt face a return fixture against Swaziland on Tuesday in Group J.

Aguirre criticised the state of the pitch at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo at a news conference following the Africa Nations Cup qualifier.

"Mohamed Salah had complained during yesterday's match versus Swaziland about stress in his muscle".

Overall, it was the 40th goal of Salah's Egypt career, putting the Liverpool star alone in third place among the African nation's all-time top scorers. He was examined medically and an X-ray was performed on the area of complaint after the game'.

Liverpool are back in action next Saturday with a Premier League trip to Huddersfield Town.
