McConnell: If Democrats investigate Trump, it could help him win re-election

The complaints landed with Roberts because of his role as chief justice of the United States, not because Kavanaugh is now a member of the Supreme Court.

Not mentioning the numerous sexual assault allegations made against her husband over the past several decades, Clinton insisted that Kavanaugh's confirmation is a blemish on the reputation of the Supreme Court.

Trump is the first President in the modern era not to release any personal tax returns, something Democrats and activists have been clamoring for throughout his presidency.

"The way they really tortured him and his family, I thought it was a disgrace", Trump said on Monday, US east coast time.

Using regulations, Trump has moved to let people buy short-term insurance that could last one year - and up to three years if renewed.

"It was all made up, it was fabricated and it's a disgrace", he said.

Asked if he considered the crowd at Trump's rally also a mob, McConnell said: "I'm not interested in talking about tweets or what people may say at rallies".

Democrats said Mr. Kobes, who works as a lawyer for Sen. The new Roberts Court will have himself, Kavanaugh, Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch as originalist justices.

He will take his seat on Tuesday - on the far right of the bench, next to Justice Elena Kagan - hearing immigration and other cases.

"Kavanaugh's history of hiring female law clerks was also complicated by a report in the Guardian alleging Yale Law School professor Amy Chua advised female law students who wanted to work for Kavanaugh on their physical appearance, saying it was "'not an accident" that Kavanaugh's female law clerks "looked like models.'" Chua denied the report, saying in a statement to the Guardian that Kavanaugh "only hires those who are extraordinarily qualified". He kept his word and, in the battle for Kavanaugh, he led from the front, even mocking the credibility of the primary accuser, Christine Blasey Ford.

But, he told the new justice, "You, sir, under historic scrutiny, were proven innocent".

With less than a month to go before Election Day, Republicans are closing the gap with Democrats - especially after the Kavanaugh debacle.

A handful of Democratic lawmakers, including congressmen Luis Gutierrez of IL and Ted Lieu of California, have pressed for Justice Kavanaugh's removal. "That's what this new Democratic Party is about", former Attorney General Eric Holder said over the weekend while campaigning in Georgia.

"After the Kavanaugh confirmation and after the entire testimony, the President came out and said this was a very scary time for men, which I don't believe to be true-it's only scary if you've actually sexually assaulted someone because then you have something to fear", Gabriel Gonzalez, CC '22, said. "We are not about impeachment". Chuck Grassley does not expect the bitter fight over Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation to detract from the collegial workings of the Senate Judiciary Committee he chairs. "But we got to be tough, and we have to fight for the very things that [civil rights leaders] John Lewis, Martin Luther King, Whitney Young - you know, all those folks gave to us". Kavanaugh could become a pivotal justice on issues including abortion.

Samuel Chase in 1804 was the only justice to be impeached by the House.

But Republicans said the ABA evaluator who reviewed the nomination was biased, saying she had also rated a previous 8th Circuit pick, Judge Steven Grasz, unqualified a year ago.

Democrat Jerrold Nadler, who is in line to chair the House Judiciary Committee if his party wins a majority in the mid-terms, said that he would be prepared to open an investigation into the top judge.
