India name unchanged 12-man squad for 2nd Test

It was only half an hour ago that Thakur, 26, was being presented his first Test cap - the 264th Test cricketer for India - by coach Ravi Shastri and he was kissing the India crest, celebrating his rise to five-day cricket after a first-class career that began in November 2012. Virat Kohli was back to lead the side after he missed the Asia Cup, but frontline quick bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were rested.

Rishabh Pant who debuted for India in the fifth Test match against England has been the in-form batsman for India right now and is likely to feature in the side in the first ODI in Guwahati.

Fast bowlers Deepak Chahar and Siddarth Kaul, who played one match each in the Asia Cup, were left out while left-arm quick Khaleel Ahmed retained his place. Rohit Sharma, who captained India to an Asia Cup triumph, is the vice captain for the ODI series. The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal has been named in the Indian team. While there have plenty of exclusions and inclusions, we take a look at the players who failed to make it to the squad.

As expected wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has made the 14-member squad as a second fiddle to MS Dhoni. It will be a three-match ODI home series against Australia A which will be played in BKC, Mumbai from October 15 to 19.

The search for a solid No. 4 continues though with Manish Pandey and Ambati Rayudu likely to get chances to stake their claim during the West Indies series.
