Jimmy Butler Returns To Practice: "You Can't Win Without Me"

Jimmy Butler Returns To Practice:

Minnesota was reportedly willing to trade Butler to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, but the Rockets were unwilling to part with PJ Tucker. Yesterday, Butler reportedly informed Wolves coach Tom Thibodeau that he still wants to be traded, per The Athletic's Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski.

Outside of the Heat, the Timberwolves have had no serious, active talks with any other team, league sources said. The team attempted to change Butler's mind on a trade request and get him to report to practice.

Minnesota had shared Butler's medical information with Miami late last week, sources said, a typical last step before finalizing a trade.

Butler was vociferous and emotional at times, targeting president/coach Tom Thibodeau, general manager Scott Layden and teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, league sources said.

The practice comes after sources said that the Heat were still pressing for a trade to acquire Butler.

Butler showed up for his first practice of the preseason on Wednesday, and he didn't exactly opt to blend in with his Timberwolves' teammates. The Heat and president Pat Riley were "as aggressive as any team in pursuit of a Jimmy Butler trade", per Wojnarowski. Owner Glen Taylor has been adamant about getting Jimmy Butler out of Minnesota and instead of following those orders weeks ago, Thibs has let Butler back on the court.

Despite his owner's intent to deal Butler, Thibodeau wasn't done trying to keep his star shooting guard.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Heat remain interested in restarting trade talks with the Wolves after the deal that seemed close to happening collapsed on Saturday. The teams reportedly advanced to the point of exchanging player medical information, which is typically the last step of National Basketball Association trade negotiations.
