Wozniacki wins as Del Potro stumbles

Wozniacki had last won in Beijjng in 2010, following which she had become world No.1 for the first time in her career.

Caroline Wozniacki won the 30th title of her career and third of 2018 with a 6-3, 6-3 over Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova in 87 minuites.

In the semifinals, the Dane routed Chinese Wang Qiang, giving her only one game in the first game and three in the second.

This seemed to affect del Potro, whose miscued drop-shot in the following set saw Basilashvili break serve once again to serve for the match at 5-4.

Wozniacki managed two breaks in the Latvian's first three services, storming to a solid 6-3, 4-1 lead that seemed unassailable given the ease with which the Dane was commanding the court in the first set.

"I feel like I'm playing well".

"I want to thank my team; Michael [Mortensen, her coach] thank you for being here and helping me out, and of course my dad, who has always been there with me since the start".

"I'm just happy to have reached 30 today, I'm going to enjoy that", said Wozniacki, a former number one.

Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark said she was fulfilling childhood dreams as she won her second China Open crown in Beijing. Having done everything, all of that, it's pretty unbelievable. Sevastova, who has been managing a stomach muscle injury since the round of 16, broke back to give herself a chance to mount a comeback.

"I think I had a dream of that, but I don't know how realistic I really believed that was going to be".

Sevastova, who is looking for her second title of the season, has never beaten Wozniacki in four previous meetings.
