Saints star Brees sets National Football League all-time pass yardage record

After the record was snapped, the party was on in New Orleans: The game was stopped as Saints players celebrated with Brees at midfield and his family came on the field.

Brees had 12,238 passing yards as a member of the then-San Diego Chargers from 2001-05, but his assault on the National Football League record books truly began when he joined the Saints as a free agent in 2006.

The 33-year-old Peterson had four rushes for six yards in the game and added two catches for 36 yards. Next season he's likely to become the record-holder in attempts (Brett Favre has 10,169) and touchdowns (Manning has 539).

The Saints (4-1) now have won four consecutive games and get a week of rest before they head to Baltimore to take on the Ravens. "You've ruined that for me". The touchdown pass gave Brees 71,968 career passing yards, surpassing Peyton Manning's mark of 71,940.

"All your hard work and dedication has paid off", Manning said in a pre-taped message.

Drew Brees is the NFL's new record holder for the most career passing yards.

The Saints, at coach Sean Payton's insistence, took a chance on Brees in 2006, and the payoff has been extraordinary.

"I didn't set out on this journey to break these records". Brees completed passes to nine different receivers, including one he completed one to himself on a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage. Monday night is giving us a good one, too. Linebacker Manti Te'o is making progress towards returning to the field after suffering his own knee injury earlier in the season.
