The "crossover event" will see Rose's Batwoman team up with Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), The Flash (Grant Gustin) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Staying true to the comics, Ruby is rocking fiery red hair and Batwoman's signature suit in the first look of Ruby in the costume. The costume was designed by award-winning designer Colleen Atwood who is responsible for several other major costumes in the Arrowverse. "But don't call her a hero yet".

At the time, she responded to the criticism by posting, "Where on Earth did "Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can't be Batwoman" come from - has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I've ever read". The character then went on to acclaimed runs in Detective Comics and her own self-titled series which was published by DC.

In her real life she is Katherine (later Kate) Kane, a wealthy Gotham City heiress who, inspired by Batman's heroic deeds, created for herself a superhero alter-ego.

Berlanti also spoke out against some of the backlash Rose was met with when she was cast in the part. Decades later, she was rebooted as Kate Kane, an openly lesbian superhero.

"Elseworlds" begins Sunday, Dec. 9, with The Flash at 8 p.m.; continues Monday, Dec. 10, at 8 p.m. with Arrow; and concludes the following night at 8 p.m. with Supergirl. "I didn't change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys".

She ended her clapback with: "If you need me, I'll be on my Bat Phone" before deleting her Twitter account.
