Tagovailoa stars as No. 1 Alabama routs Arkansas

On the Crimson Tide's second possession, Tagovailoa hit Smith again, and the 6-foot-4 junior ripped off another big gain before he was stripped from behind by Ryan Pulley.

The Razorbacks have allowed a total of 72 points before scoring in the past four weeks, with deficits of 17-0 against North Texas, Auburn and Texas A&M, and 21-0 against Alabama. Storey added 36 yards rushing but lost two fumbles.

The first score was an eight-yard pass from Ty Storey, capping a methodical 11-play, 75-yard drive that featured three catches by O'Grady.

The Arkansas defense finally stopped Alabama early in the second quarter on a key fourth down play, and moved to the Tide 5.

Heisman Trophy frontrunner Tua Tagovailoa hit tight end Irv Smith Jr. on a shallow crossing route and he took it 76 yards up the sideline for a touchdown. That performance helped Alabama keep its spot at No. 1 in both major polls released Sunday. De'Vion Warren's nice sliding 17-yard touchdown reception from Storey came against backups in the fourth quarter and Kelley added a one-yard touchdown run to cover the 35-point spread.

Never one to pass up a chance to take a shot at Alabama, former Florida Gator Tim Tebow said he agreed with Saban's criticism after the student section at Bryant-Denny Stadium was not full for the team's 11 a.m. game against Louisiana-Lafayette.

"We need to coach them better", Saban said. Tagovailoa has thrown 18 touchdown passes and no interceptions and has yet to throw a fourth-quarter pass. The Razorbacks entered the game converting 29.3 percent of its third-down plays to rank No. 124 among FBS teams.

Allowing 31 points to Arkansas is not the patented Alabama defensive performance we've come to expect from Saban's teams.

Alabama will host Missouri next week.

The Hogs will travel to Little Rock next Saturday to take on Ole Miss, seeking to continue a recent trend of finding ways to pull out wins against the Rebels.
