Palestinian gunman kills two Israelis in West Bank: Israeli military

Conricus identified the gunman as a 23-year-old Palestinian from a West Bank village and said he was still at large.

CCTV footage showed a man carrying a rifle fleeing the scene.

The IDF said Sunday that Na'alwa was known to security forces but had no past terror offenses and no formal ties to terrorist groups, saying it appeared to have been a "lone-wolf attack". Another woman in her 50s was seriously wounded.

Troops had searched his house and surveyed it in preparation for demolition, and detained for questioning several Palestinians suspected of assisting him, the IDF added.

Both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman denounced the attack and said the perpetrator would be brought to justice. They reportedly include Mr Naalwa's brother and sister. But other workers in the industrial zone suggested the attack was carried out by a disgruntled employee and was not politically motivated.

"One of the workers was sacked and he didn't like the owner".

Hamas, the militant group that controls the Gaza Strip - the other main Palestinian territory - called the attack a "heroic operation".

Israel settlements are considered illegal under worldwide law and major stumbling blocks to peace as they are built on land the Palestinians see as part of their future state. The settlements are considered illegal under global law, though Israel disputes this.

A third Israeli sustained serious injuries in the attack.

Last month, a Palestinian teenager stabbed to death the US-born settler Ari Fuld, a well-known pro-Israel advocate, at a shopping centre in Gush Etzion.

More than 260 Palestinians have also been killed over the same period.

While the headline was later updated and the words "Israel Says" removed, HonestReporting says that there is something insidious about the first reaction of the NY Times' headline writers.
