Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino Given 8-Month Prison Sentence

Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is going to jail.

Jersey Shore's Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino has been sentenced to eight months in prison in his tax evasion case. He also pleaded guilty in January.

"The pair conspired to fail to pay all federal income tax owed on approximately $8.9 million earned by Michael Sorrentino between 2010 and 2012".

Prosecutors had sought a 14-month sentence to send a message that tax fraud will be met with "real punishment", People magazine reported.

The brothers appeared in federal court in Newark, New Jersey, accompanied by several "Jersey Shore" cast members, according to local media reports.

Michael Sorrentino admitted making cash deposits into bank accounts in amounts less than $10,000 each so the IRS wouldn't be notified, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito said. His brother, Marc Sorrentino, 39, pleaded guilty to preparing a false tax return.

A federal judge handed down the sentence shortly after the star, whose real name is Michael Sorrentino, received a two-year sentence on the same charge.

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Vinny Guadagnino, Deena Cortese, Pauly "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Angelina Pivarnick were all spotted outside the courthouse, along with Sorrentino's fiancée, Lauren Pesce. Indicted at the same time as Sitch on tax evasion charges, Marc was sentenced to two years in the slammer and a $70,000 fine.

"Mike accepts the court's decision and looks forward to marrying his college sweetheart, Lauren Pesce, and moving forward together after serving his sentence", the statement read. The series ran for six seasons, ending in late 2012.
