Jimmy Butler Requests Trade, Handcuffs T-Wolves In Process

ESPN reported that Butler's three preferred trade destinations are the Nets, Knicks and Clippers.

This means it's time for some speculation!

Butler informed coach Tom Thibodeau of his request on Tuesday, but Thibodeau has been resistant to the idea, according to The Athletic.

He has two years remaining on the five-year, $92 million deal he signed with the Bulls in 2015 before he was traded to the Timberwolves before last season.

After earlier reports of discontent on behalf of Butler with his teammates' immaturity was only exacerbated by "contractual matters" which led to Wednesday's trade request. The 29-year old All-Star, who is now slated to become a free agent next summer, can sign a max deal worth four years, $140.6 million. He fits the bill of a max-contract player, but teams might be reluctant to invest this much money in Butler.

If your first reaction to this is that the Timberwolves are getting fleeced, remember how little leverage they have. Of course, a commitment from Butler to re-sign with the team could mitigate the issue. "More to do with contractual matters".

One player who definitely fits that category is Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jimmy Butler, who wants out of his current situation with the Timberwolves.

"They got a little bit exhausted of hearing him extols his own virtues as much as he did".
