President Donald Trump issued a disaster declaration for North Carolina, the White House said Saturday.

In North Carolina, cities such as Wilmington and Lumberton are bracing for more flooding.

"The worst is yet to come", as river levels rise to historic levels, said Zach Taylor, an NWS meteorologist. Roads were being cleared and the landfill was open to accept storm refuse.

"There's too much going on, " he told a news conference. Officials warned residents to avoid driving around barricades.

A portion of the roof collapsed at the Starlight Motel near the USA military base at Fort Bragg but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

At the White House, Donald Trump said nearly 20,000 military personnel and federal workers were deployed to help with the aftermath.

North Carolina environmental regulators said several open-air manure pits at hog farms had been breached and were spilling pollution.

The storm is expected to produce "heavy to potentially excessive rainfall" throughout Tuesday in parts of the northern mid-Atlantic states and southern New England.

"It just makes you realize how vulnerable we all are", Cassidy said. Further flooding could push up that figure.

"Run, gator, run. Run from Florence", Byrd said.
