Flooding in Fayetteville: Cape Fear River rising

President Donald Trump issued a disaster declaration for North Carolina, the White House said Saturday.

The amounts are unofficial, but still a good look at the gravity of Florence. 100% of the net proceeds of the "Carolina Strong" T-Shirt, which is now available online at NBAstore.com, Fanatics.com and HornetsFanShop.com for $24.99, will go to the Foundation For The Carolinas' Hurricane Florence Response Fund. They show devastating flooding, homes destroyed by winds and fallen trees and rescues in action.

President Donald Trump will travel Wednesday to areas affected by Hurricane Florence in North Carolina and SC, sources tell CNN.

The storm killed at least 11 people in North Carolina, including a mother and child hit by a falling tree, state officials said.

But it's impossible to say how deep the Lumber River is now, because the official river gauge stopped working a few days ago.

Residents (from left) Mike Haddock, 48, Katlyn Humphrey, 19, Michelle Haddock, 45, and Justin Humphrey, 24, remove possessions from the Haddock's flooded home using a jon boat in Trenton, North Carolina. He has been criticized for his handling of Hurricane Maria, which devastate Puerto Rico previous year, and more recently for disputing the official death toll of 3,000.

In North Carolina, cities such as Wilmington and Lumberton are bracing for more flooding.

"The worst is yet to come", as river levels rise to historic levels, said Zach Taylor, an NWS meteorologist. Roads were being cleared and the landfill was open to accept storm refuse.

"There's too much going on, " he told a news conference. Officials warned residents to avoid driving around barricades.

A portion of the roof collapsed at the Starlight Motel near the USA military base at Fort Bragg but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

At the White House, Donald Trump said nearly 20,000 military personnel and federal workers were deployed to help with the aftermath.

North Carolina environmental regulators said several open-air manure pits at hog farms had been breached and were spilling pollution.

The storm is expected to produce "heavy to potentially excessive rainfall" throughout Tuesday in parts of the northern mid-Atlantic states and southern New England.

"It just makes you realize how vulnerable we all are", Cassidy said. Further flooding could push up that figure.

"Run, gator, run. Run from Florence", Byrd said.
