Patriots' Josh Gordon Trade: Terms of Browns' Deal

Patriots' Josh Gordon Trade: Terms of Browns' Deal

The Cleveland Browns have traded wide receiver Josh Gordon to the New England Patriots, the team announced Monday. Gordon spent much of the preseason dealing with hamstring issues, and that was the reason he was inactive for Sunday, however it was reported he got injured doing a promotional shoot.

"Full compensation trade update: Patriots send Browns a 2019 fifth-round pick for WR Josh Gordon and get back a 2019 seventh-round pick if he is not active for 10 games, source tells ESPN".

Obviously, the Patriots are in desperate need of a dynamic receiver to stretch the field, and will be all season.

"There were things that we do not want to have happen here", Cleveland coach Hue Jackson said Monday in announcing the trade.

Gordon's strained hamstring is not serious and he's expected to play in Week 3 against the Lions.

Gordon's huge talent has been overshadowed by substance abuse that has derailed a promising career. The Browns made the deal official with an announcement on their Twitter account shortly after news of the deal broke nationally.

Gordon has shown the ability to be one of the best wide receivers in the league when he's right physically and mentally.

Selected in the second round of the 2012 supplemental draft, Gordon has proven to be an exceptional talent - when he's on the field.

However, after that Pro Bowl season, Gordon was suspended for 44 consecutive games dating back to the final week of the 2014 season, which was a team ban for reportedly missing a walk-through prior to a trip to Baltimore to play the Ravens. He appeared in one game this season and recorded one catch for a 17-yard touchdown.
