Incredible Scenes As Buffalo Bills Player Quits And Retires At Half

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Davis supposedly put his street clothes on and left the stadium.

The 30-year-old Davis' sudden decision to retire in the middle of a game, as opposed to after the game, has drawn harsh criticism from many, with potentially no one more incensed than former National Football League head coach and current ESPN analyst, Rex Ryan.

McDermott said Monday that Davis remains on the Bills' roster but that he and general manager Brandon Beane are discussing their personnel situation at cornerback.

"Oh my God. Get the hell out of here", Ryan said, as transcribed by Business Insider. "He communicated to us that he was done", coach Sean McDermott said following the Bills 31-20 loss in Week 2 of the season. He made a lot of good reads, did a lot of good things with his feet, made some loose plays, made some big plays for us.

That's just not something you see every day. His actions spoke and I heard everything he needed to say through that. I'm not sure what's going on in his mind right now.

After the game, Davis released a statement confirming his retirement and explaining his decision.

The former Miami Dolphins CB Vontae Davis was on the field and started for The Buffalo Bills, but was nowhere to be seen come second half.
