Carston Wentz medically cleared for return vs. Colts

Following Sunday's 27-21 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Eagles coach Doug Pederson was coy when asked about Wentz, saying he'll "talk more about it [Monday], probably". He made history when Wentz was out. Backup Nick Foles took over from there and, after experiencing some bumps early, amped up his play during the postseason, eventually leading the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl title with a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots. He'll have the time to do that because, as Pederson said, "we drafted him to be our guy". It is much more hard than recovering from a mere ACL tear.

Tight end Zach Ertz said he's excited to get Wentz back "whenever that is", but cautioned that the team shouldn't expect to rest all its hopes on the young quarterback. "Nick, all along, has understood that this is Carson's football team", said Pederson. In that game, Foles was named Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 373 yards and three touchdowns. He stayed in the game long enough to throw a touchdown pass later in that series, but left the game afterward.

The Eagles' offense desperately needs Wentz, who will change the complexion of the unit immediately.

Asked if Wentz will be restricted in any way in his first game back, Pederson said, "There are no limitations".

After two weeks watching an up-and-down Foles lead the Eagles to a 1-1 start while averaging 5.5 yards per attempt and a 78.9 passer rating, Wentz is back under center.

Surely, the Eagles will be creative and find a way to maximize Wentz's effectiveness.

"He's going to be prepared mentally".

The Eagles didn't bother to act like they needed to see Wentz in practice before determining if he would start; he was cleared and the Eagles wasted no time announcing he'd start Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.
