Nigeria's finance minister resigns over forged document

Her letter also revealed that she took the decision to resign after an internal investigation ordered by President Buhari declared the exemption certificate as fake.

Premium Times in July 2018 reported that the minister had forged her National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, certificate.

The media aide to the former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has reacted to the report that the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun resigned from her position.

However, the PDP is not satisfied with the former minister's resignation and has insisted on her immediate arrest and prosecution. "This has come as a shock to me and I believe that in line with this administration's focus on integrity, I must do the honourable thing and resign", she wrote in her letter to President Buhari.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Kaduna, where she was born, and an MBA from the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. Until recent events, that remained my understanding.

"The PDP is also aware of plots by the Federal Government to secretly move her out of the country, and for that, we urge the global community to be at alert and ensure she is repatriated to face justice in Nigeria should the Federal Government succeeds in its devious plan".

A source told newsmen in August that President Buhari may "pardon" the minister as a reward for "the great works she has done for government - bailing out the country from recession and stabilizing the economy". Having never worked in NYSC, visited the premises, been privy to nor familiar with their operations, I had no reason to suspect that the certificate was anything but genuine.
