Douglas Costa apologises for spitting vs Sassuolo

The 33-year-old had so far failed to find the net after the first three games of the Serie A season, but the Portuguese opened his account as Juventus hosted Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon.

Costa escaped with a booking for elbowing and then head-butting Sassuolo midfielder Federico Di Francesco as they tangled before the late Sassuolo goal.

"Even if he was fouled, these episodes must not happen", Allegri told reporters.

With both goals coming from Cristiano Ronaldo, manager Massimiliano Allegri will not be overwhelmingly pleased, however, as footage emerged of Douglas Costa unmistakably spitting at an opponent.

"I would like to apologise to all Juventus fans for my ugly reaction in today's game", he wrote on Instagram. "We have suffered a goal, a red card and a suspension which will be long".

The former Real Madrid superstar was in the best form of his life as he scored two goals for his new club after playing three games this season with scoring.

Ronaldo signed with Juventus on July 10, with the five-time Ballon d'Or victor joining the Italian club on a four-year deal worth at least $340 million.

You can see Cristiano Ronaldo Jr's strike in the video above.

"Football has a way of evening things out and that was the story of the first goal, with the ball bouncing off the post and sitting up for him".
