Ashley Young Starts - Manchester United Team vs Watford Confirmed

Smalling scored what proved to be the winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 triumph at Watford, ending the hosts' 100 per cent start to the season, even if late pressure meant it was a close shave for United.

While Fellaini missed the majority of the global break with Belgium owing to a back problem, he had worked his way back to full fitness in time for United's meeting with a Watford side with four wins from four in the Premier League.

Three minutes later, Chris Smalling put the ball in the back of the net after Fellaini's assist.

Mourinho was in a somewhat joyful mood after the win, and he jokingly revealed that dislikes Smalling's new hairstyle. Smalling makes it two as he chests and volleys home Fellaini's nod down from a right-wing corner.

"Then we go to two matches away, hard matches". With Deeney's bruising, punishing style more than capable of pulverising United's vulnerable centre, Fellaini dropped deep to shield the central defenders to the point where he was nearly indistinguishable from them.

" We had a similar conversation last season about Marouane (Fellaini) and I was always saying "I hope he stays, I believe he stays".

"He's playing simple and well".

Former Watford player Ashley Young came in at left-back to replace Luke Shaw, who suffered a head injury while on England duty last week.

United return to action on Wednesday, when they face BSC Young Boys in the first group game of this season's Champions League campaign.

The first half an hour was even as the two sides tested each other out - United probed but the home side looked risky on the break, confidence coursing through the players on the back of four straight wins.

"I am very happy with the points", said Mourinho.

"So I can only comment on what is real for me, not in what I read, not in what I listen to".

"I think in the second half we made a step forward and we were able to get out and try to create more chances, with more possession and we competed better", he said. "Victor [Lindelof] and Marouane [Fellaini] were important, matches in two against two, because Burnley and Watford, two strikers, and two powerful strikers, can hold the ball, in the air, they are physical, they are clever, these three guys were important for us again".

"Paul came back after the World Cup in the week before the start of the Premier League so we have been together for about two months or so and he has never told me that he wants to leave". We tried to win, but if we have to lose, we have to lose like today in this way, fighting until the end, showing all the time our spirit and character.
