Nintendo announces wireless NES controllers to play classic games on Switch Online

Classic games in the NES - Nintendo Switch Online collection and the save data for those games will not be removed unless the user chooses to do so manually.

Save data stored with Save Data Cloud can not be kept outside of the duration of your Nintendo Switch Online membership. Asmodee, makers of many popular tabletop games like Pandemic, Settlers of Catan and Munchkin, is bringing many of its tabletop hits to the Switch starting in December. So you'll need to keep your Nintendo Switch Online subscription up if you want to keep your saves backed up online otherwise you will lose your cloud saves. Nintendo Switch Online will feature 20 NES games at launch, and the company promises that more games from other Nintendo consoles will be added later.

We are unable to guarantee that cloud save data will be retained after an extended period of time from when your membership is ended.

Offered exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members, the retro controllers look (and presumably feel) just like the original NES gamepads albeit without the wire. "These items are stored locally on the Nintendo Switch system but can not be accessed without an active Nintendo Switch Online membership".

As part of last night's Direct, Nintendo confirmed it is releasing new Switch controllers in the form of NES controllers, which can slide onto the Joy-Con rails to charge. How Nintendo plans to actually enforce these restrictions, I'm not sure. Are you signing up? A few days ago, the Big N revealed the release date of the service, and it will be released together with the latest system update on September 18, 2018.
