Unai Emery challenges Mesut Özil to be more dominant at Arsenal

Arsenal boss Unai Emery insists he works well with Mesut Ozil and says the German's retirement from global football will benefit the Gunners.

Ozil appears to be carrying a hangover from the 2018 World Cup which resulted in him quitting the Germany national team citing racism and discrimination.

Emery is hoping for a fresh start for a player he wants to see relishing his opportunity to affect games for the club.

"Speaking ahead of Arsenal's game against Newcastle this weekend, Emery said: "[We get on] very well. "He is working for the team to help us with his quality".

Emery insists reports he has a frosty relationship with Ozil are absurd.

Emery discussed how the experienced defender has progressively improved since his time in Spain, highlighting just why he remains an integral part of his plans at Arsenal.

"The reason is that I am very happy with the last two victories in the Premier League and also with the performances and I want to push every player to be okay to help the team if for one minute, 30 minutes or half time or 90 minutes".

Goalkeeper: Once again, Petr Cech looked uncomfortable with the ball at his feet during the win over Cardiff City last time out but I still don't think Emery is going to bring in Bernd Leno just yet. Mesut works very well here.

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis' future looks less certain, though, with AC Milan having re-opened negotiations with him.

Following talks over the worldwide break, Emery claims the two are getting on and have a good working relationship. The Nigerian worldwide has had a positive start to the season and will be hoping to continue that on the weekend.

First, I knew Nacho Monreal in Spain when he was playing in Osasuna and in Malaga.
