Apple previously included a lightning to USB cable, USB power adapter, headphones for use with a Lightning connector and a dongle in the box containing a new iPhone. The iPhone XR surprisingly includes numerous same capabilities as the iPhone XS, with the most significant differences being the LCD display and a single-lens camera system. The iPhone XS (pronounced "ten ess") and XS Max are the updated version of last year's iPhone X. The XS has a 5.8-inch OLED display, while the XS Max has a 6.5-inch display.

That being said, on its own he notes it "could be mistaken for the iPhone X of last year". Side by side, the iPhone XR screen looks duller and less pin-sharp. It has the same upgraded technology as the iPhone XS phones, and you can take Bokeh portrait shots with the help of software.

Single rear camera lens instead of two: This is a big one. You can't zoom in as much, though, and you have fewer portrait lighting effects. However, you can still launch the camera app and flashlight from the lock screen and feel some haptic vibration when you do.

Battery life: We can't say for sure until we test all three new iPhones, but the iPhone XR might have longer battery life than the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

The iPhone XR starts at $749 with 64GB of storage, the same price as a smaller screened iPhone 8 256GB model and $50 more than an iPhone plus with 64GB of storage. Meanwhile, the iPhone 8 starts at £599/$599 and the 8 Plus is reduced to £699/$699.

Apple announced a number of new products at this week's iPhone event, but it neglected its Beats audio division.

We're also going to see Beats' Solo3 Wireless in "satin gold" and "satin silver".

Some specifications of Apple devices never get formally announced.

As such, Gareth concludes that providing you don't want loads of advanced features, no "bells and whistles", then the camera system on the iPhone XR "will do you just fine".

This has led to the iPhone XR being variously described as "cheap", "entry-level", or the "budget" iPhone for this year.
