The odds have been pushed in from around 7/5 to 6/5 for Jurgen Klopp's men to take the tie, whilst Spurs have been moved out from 15/8 to 2/1.

The 31-year-old missed Spurs' Premier League game at Watford on 2 September and both of France's matches during the worldwide break.

He will miss the game against Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday, as will Dele Alli, who picked up a hamstring injury on worldwide duty.

Dele Alli will miss Tottenham's Premier League match against Liverpool with a hamstring injury as club captain Hugo Lloris also remains on the sidelines.

"He is going to do another scan to see how is the evolution of his injury", Pochettino told Sky Sports.

"He's the first that regrets everything, and all that happened yesterday is not good", he said.

The World Cup victor has been handed a 20-month driving ban and fined about £50,000, just over half of his weekly salary with the Lilywhites who also fined him £200,000.

Asked if the World Cup victor would remain as captain, Pochettino said: "Of course". "Of course, he doesn't feel great". He is punishing himself. "I am disappointed because we are going to miss him for this game and maybe the Champions League game against Inter Milan [on September 18]".

The Reds won all four of their opening Premier League matches before the recess, ensuring they now stand top of the fledgling table.

The 22-year-old played another full ninety minutes for England against Spain at the weekend, but will be unavailable for the visit of Liverpool to Wembley Stadium. "But we will try to keep our good performances and I hope we can win a lot of games", the Switzerland worldwide told reporters.
