'Barca can bid for De Jong, but Ajax won't sell!'

Barcelona are reportedly keen to secure a deal which will see them sign Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong ahead of next season. De Jong can play as an interior midfielder or deeper and his versatility is valued by Barcelona.

During the last summer transfer, Barcelona were said to have had their bid turned down by Ajax chiefs, although the Catalan giants will still go again when the January transfer window opens.

However, De Jong confirmed earlier this summer that he meant to play in the Champions League with the Dutch giants this season, ending talk of a €50 million (£44.5m/$58m) transfer, for now. However, they are believed to be still in talks with Ajax, as they grow anxious over interest in the 21-year old from other clubs, mainly from Tottenham Hotspur. After returning to the Champions League group stage this season, the former European champions are determined to retain their squad as they try to reach the knockout phase.

Frenkie De Jong is only 21 years old and still has time before a big move becknows him.

The report from Sport analyses Barcelona's interest in de Jong, revealing that he is seen as a potential successor to Sergio Busquets in the heart of the midfield.

De Jong made his senior worldwide debut as a substitute for the Netherlands against Peru on Thursday before he was handed his first start in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to France.

'Maybe someday I'll join Barcelona, but not this season. After that he joined the second division Dutch side Jong Ajax in the summer transfer window of 2015-16 to get the opportunity to play more first team football. The Dutch midfielder has scored 1 goal so far in his 37 appearances for AFC Ajax till date.
