Apple iPhone XS, XS Max and XR: Your First Look

Apple iPhone XS, XS Max and XR: Your First Look

Apple's iPhone Xr model is the cheapest of the new iPhones, with a starting price of $749.

If Apple's own website is to be believed, the smartphone maker plans to announce three new iPhone models on Wednesday: the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR. This gives the device a bigger display than an iPhone 8 Plus in a smaller overall handset.

Apple has once again taken to its Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino to show off the iPhone XS, the Apple Watch Series 4 and potentially a few other surprises. At least one analyst also expects the device to provide an electrocardiogram, or ECG, though, that would likely require Food and Drug Administration approval, and Apple hadn't secured that as of Tuesday.

Pictures of Apple's upcoming iPhone purportedly leaked last month on a well-known Apple blog.

The tech giant will live-stream its event on the social media platform for the first time on Wednesday as it looks to draw in a larger audience.

The lower-priced model is available in aircraft-grade aluminum in coral, black, blue, yellow, white, and PRODUCT (RED) with 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB capacities.

But there's one area where Apple is stubbornly holding onto the innovator narrative and badly impacting the usability of its most important product - and that's with Face ID on the iPhone X, and soon the iPhone XS as well.

Processor. The A12 Bionic chip found in all the new models skates out to the jagged edge of silicon chip design.

Both of these phones have huge gorgeous AMOLED displays, dual cameras, fast performance and tons of fancy features. Although if Apple has hidden any extras up its sleeves, it could easily reach the 2-hour mark. Pricing starts at US$999 for the iPhone Xs and $1,099 for the iPhone X Max.

Like the XS and XS MAX, the XR has a new Depth Control slider feature that lets you adjust the depth-of-field in Portrait Mode photos after they're captured, going from maximum bokeh at f/1.8 to maximum depth-of-field at f/16. The iPhone remains its biggest product, and the company is ready to make it even bigger. It clocks in with a whopping 6.5-inch display, the largest Apple has ever offered on an iPhone. Now Apple is making the core features available on a range of devices that appeal to different budgets.

The iPhone XR was also introduced at the event.

This bigger display will allow for richer, more customizable watch faces, which you can outfit with new complications including your favorite contacts and multiple time zones. If it detects a fall and the user doesn't respond in a minute, it'll automatically call for help.
