Vikings’ Danielle Hunter: Jimmy Garoppolo was getting scared of us

Kirk Cousins passed for two touchdowns in his much-anticipated Minnesota debut, and the Vikings forced four turnovers to fuel a 24-16 victory over San Francisco on Sunday to stick 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with his first loss in eight games as an National Football League starter.

Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter said that as the relentless pass rush kept coming after Garoppolo, he started to look afraid of getting hit.

Kirk Cousins took the third-and-5 shotgun snap with 3 minutes left and Minnesota holding an eight-point lead.

Meanwhile, the second interception was thrown ahead of rookie wideout Dante Pettis that led to Pro Bowler Xavier Rhodes making a tremendous play on the ball to haul it in.

49ers: Host Detroit next Sunday. "You see that he's starting to get scared", Hunter said.

Harrison Smith sealed the game with an interception with 1:35 left.

Asked afterward about that head-first hustle, Cousins acknowledged the risk of such a play and said he might have been better served with a stutter-step or some kind of move to try to make Lee miss.

"You never know until you go through that with guys, because he's had a lot of success in the games that he's played", Shanahan said during his weekly news conference Monday of his conversation with Garoppolo.

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook caught six passes for 55 yards. Wide open up the seam, Kittle had what would've been a 30-yard completion fall off his fingers at midfield. It was just one of several miscues for the 49ers though.

"We were rolling there toward the end", Kittle said. "Just a bad play".

"We want to see greatness from this team and we want to see them accomplish something that we weren't able to do", Smith told the crowd, "and we want them to do it for you". After Mike Person (second quarter) and Joshua Garnett (third quarter) went out, rookie right tackle Mike McGlinchey had to slide over for the first action at guard of his life as Gary Gilliam entered at right tackle. "Thought it was a little closer to me". They haven't faced the Packers on the road in September since the 2008 season opener.
