Harrington, Pavan share lead at Czech Masters

Harrington, Pavan share lead at Czech Masters

It was the 10th season win for Italian golf. He arrived off a run of T14-T6, but within that he has now broken 67 seven times in his last nine laps.

Harrington looked likely to land his first win in nearly two years when he opened up a three-shot lead at the turn, but the impressive Pavan made five birdies coming home to return a 67 and claim a two-stroke victory on 22 under par, a new tournament record.

However 29-year-old Pavan, who had held a share of the lead with Harrington overnight, responded well to the Irishman's fast start with birdies on ten and twelve.

Pavan said his first European Tour win was extra special.

A 3 under par final round of 69, saw the three time major winning Dubliner finish 20 under par, with Italy's Andrea Pavan sealing a two shot victory.

"It was a good contest, no doubt about it", said Harrington after his first top-10 finish for almost 10 months.

European Ryder Cup hopefuls Thomas Pieters and Eddie Pepperell ended in a nine-way tie for ninth on 12-under.

"The putt on 16 was massive", Pavan said.

"It's incredible, it's massive", he said. "It took a lot out of me, a lot of focus and I holed the putts that you'd like to be holing on a Sunday". "It's the first time I'm in this position on the European Tour so it will be good, probably a long day, but I'll just try to keep doing my own thing and not watch him too much". "It could have easily gone both ways, he was ahead of me most of the day but after I got ahead I stayed aggressive".

Malaysia's Gavin Green was third at 17-under for the tournament while England's Lee Slattery and Scotland's Scott Jamieson were tied for fourth.
