Paul Pogba admits ‘my attitude was not right’ in Manchester United defeat

Fred lined up in United's midfield alongside Andreas Pereira and World Cup victor Paul Pogba, yet the trio struggled to get going and often found themselves out-muscled by a physical Brighton side. Our second goal came too late.

For the first time in almost two years, Mourinho's men conceded more than twice with all three Brighton goals arriving before half-time through Glenn Murray, Shane Duffy and a Pascal Gross penalty.

On Manchester United's mediocre performance against Brighton, Mourinho added: 'Too many mistakes.

The Old Trafford side were distant runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League last term and have not won the title since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson departed in 2013.

His positioning was generally poor, he conceded a needless corner from which Brighton scored their second, while his rash challenge on Gross gifted them the third from the penalty spot.

But United are likely deserving of the criticism that they have faced since their defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon. As ever, you can watch Brighton Vs Manchester United via beIN SPORTS CONNECT.

Brighton manager Chris Hughton said his side's tempo was key to the 3-2 home win over Manchester United and praised striker Glenn Murray, whose superb flick opened the scoring.

Club record signing Alireza Jahanbakhsh is all set to make his home debut and will be charged with finding the back of the net for the Seagulls.

"This was not our intention, [it was] just filming what happened last season".

United boss Jose Mourinho warned in the summer that his side faced "a hard season" if they did not strengthen before the transfer window closed.

Mourinho turned to two of England's World Cup heroes in Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard at the break in search of inspiration.

United lacked leadership across the pitch with captain Paul Pogba a shadow of the player who had impressed the previous week in the win over Leicester City.

But the damage had already been done as Brighton sat comfortably on their lead until virtually the last kick of the match.

If you believe all the transfer stories in the summer, United were linked with 160 new players and signed three of them. The Brazilian midfielder was at his marauding best at times and will be looking to continue his solid start for the Red Devils.
