Wilder And Fury Go Face-To-Face As Fight Is Confirmed

The pair have been calling each other out for months and after Fury despatched Francesco Pianeta at Windsor Park in Belfast they said that the showdown was "officially on".

It was in the sixth when Fury swung and missed with a wild right hook, a shot he perhaps threw in the knowledge he could take such a risk. It was, on closer inspection, more of an altercation over a comment apparently made by Saunders and which riled Wilder. I said: "Send me the contract.' They sent the contract". "One thing I do promise you, when I go to Las Vegas, I'm knocking you the f-- out".

"I'll see you's in Vegas".

“They called, I answered. "I will knock you out and this I promise".

With neither fighter doing any real damage, Fury maintained control of proceedings and finally landed a heavy left to the body in the seventh round.

Wilder has been at Belfast during fight week to generate buzz of a future fight with Fury.

"If he takes the fight with Deontay Wilder, he's knocked basically every man he's ever faced out", he said.

The American appeared after Fury tipped the scales at 18 stone, six pounds - over 18lbs lighter than he was at for his victory over Sefer Seferi in Manchester on June 9 - and entered into a shouting match with Fury's father, John, who had to be held back on the stage.

Deontay Wilder, however, apologised to the Windsor Park crowd and said Fury won't get the chance to make that a reality.

"I think it was a calculated boxing performance", Fury said. I thought that was a step up with the opponent and display. "It's no secret that I need the rounds". "This man [Pianeta] couldn't land a blow on me tonight".

With the expected trash talk from both sides, their unbeaten records and the fact that both tower at 6-foot-7 or above, there's enough of a theatrical and historic element to the fight that Wilder-Fury is expected to do big business.

In just his second comeback bout following more than two years away from the ring to exorcise personal demons, Fury did as he pleased against a disengaging Pianeta.
