Strzok was sacked late Friday by FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich, said his lawyer, Aitan Goelman. His lawyer said that his texts are protected speech under the First Amendment.

The longtime FBI agent who was removed from the Russian Federation investigation over anti-Trump text messages has been fired by the agency.

Bobby Goodlatte tweeted that he was "deeply embarrassed" that "Strzok's career was ruined by" Virginia Rep. In one text four days before the election, Page told Strzok that the "American presidential election, and thus, the state of the world, actually hangs in the balance".

Amid all of this, Trump has routinely called him out on Twitter.

"In another text, Page wrote Strzok in August 2016: "(Trump's) not ever going to become president, right?

Strzok was sacked Monday, ending a 22-year career with the bureau, for sending texts to FBI lawyer and girlfriend Lisa Page that were critical of Donald Trump while working on special counsel Robert Mueller's team. For months, Strzok had been criticized for injecting bias into both the Hillary Clinton email investigation and the Trump/Russia collusion investigation. The petition accompanying the fundraiser reads, "his work, and his character have been the target of highly politicized attacks, including frequent slanderous statements from President Trump, who actively-and apparently successfully-pressured Federal Bureau of Investigation officials to fire Pete".

The president also tweeted that the Clinton investigation "was a total fraud on the American public and should be properly redone!"

Fitton said the Justice Department and the FBI need to examine the way the Mueller investigation has been using the evidence Strzok gathered and determine whether or not it has been used to target Trump.
