Torchlight Frontiers Coming To Consoles And PC Next Year

Called Torchlight Frontiers, it is coming from Arc, Echtra, and Perfect World in 2019.

China-based, free-to-play publisher Perfect World Entertainment purchased Torchlight studio Runic Games in 2010, and closed the Seattle-based studio in November 2017, worrying may fans of the games.

The Torchlight series then spawned a sequel in Torchlight 2 back in 2012, and for those who were hoping to see what could be next, it looks like we have our answer with Torchlight Frontiers. Torchlight Frontiers is due to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019.

Despite the closure, Perfect World promised it was "committed to supporting and growing Runic Games' beloved franchises".

When further discussing the games as a service concept, Shaefer spoke fondly of how it allows for continuous additions to be made to a game, while working with the community to give them what they want. According to Schaefer, "Evolving the Torchlight universe into a shared world has always been a goal for the franchise, and I'm excited that we're finally able to make it a reality". "We continue to be amazed by the sheer level of talent and wealth of experience that they bring to Torchlight Frontiers", says Im.

This is still a Diablo-esque game, all about slashing through enemies in procedurally-generated dungeons and grabbing ever more powerful loot to defeat ever more powerful monsters.

"What we wanted to do with this one was two things", Echtra Games CEO Max Schaefer tells IGN.

Torchlight Frontiers is headed to Gamescom and PAX West!

Additional details about Torchlight Frontiers will be revealed at a later date.
