Schuette wins Michigan GOP gubernatorial primary to fill Snyder’s seat ZlotoNews

Michigan Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer walks on Livernois she tours the area with Mayor Mike Duggan, Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, in Detroit.

Another Democratic running is businessman Shri Thanedar. Schuette, Michigan's current Attorney General, defeated Lt. Governor Brian Calley, State Senator Patrick Colbeck and Dr. Jim Hines to win the Republican race. The number of female House nominees is at least 185 nationwide and stands at 10 in MI, which also are records.

Strong feelings about President Donald Trump, a competitive governor's race and congressional retirements fueled what probably was record turnout for a MI primary, with more than half-million more people voting than in 2010 - the last time the governorship was open. Turnout figures posted online only go back to 1978.

She said earlier this week that "there wasn't a single mom" consulted when the decision was made to switch Flint's water source, which led to lead contamination that has been blamed primarily on Republican Gov. Rick Snyder's administration. And yet our leaders have failed us, and that's exactly what this campaign is all about: taking care of the families of this state.

"Thanks to Republican leadership, MI is thriving".

Dan Bongino added that there is a "serious question" as to whether someone can successfully hold a debate with a leftist without being derogatorily called an "-phobe" or a "-ist".

Polls close at 8 p.m. Pence and President Donald Trump both supported Schuette during the primary.

"They come to the race and will tell us, 'We really believe in electing women because women will be more civil and get more done in Washington, '" Slotkin said.

And in Missouri, Republicans nominated Josh Hawley, the state attorney general, as their challenger against Sen.

In Kansas, Republicans were also hurtling to the end of a bruising primary for governor: Jeff Colyer, the Republican incumbent, appeared at dire risk of losing the GOP nomination to Kris Kobach, a hard-right state official whom Trump endorsed on Monday.

"I love MI. I am raising my family here in this great state", she said.
