Ohio State 'never contacted' ex-wife of former assistant about abuse

Courtney Smith has not been contacted by Ohio State regarding allegations of domestic violence against her ex-husband, former wide receivers coach Zach Smith, but she will fully cooperate with the university's ongoing investigation, according to her attorney.

A sad rally with 200 people was held in Columbus on Monday to support Meyer.

Head coach Urban Meyer of the Ohio State Buckeyes on the sidelines during the BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at University of Phoenix Stadium on January 1, 2016 in Glendale, Arizona.

The 2015 allegation happened while Zach Smith was at Ohio State and he told multiple media outlets last week that he was on the road recruiting and was told by Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith to come back to Columbus after the accusation was made to police.

Ohio State has appointed a six-member team to coordinate the investigation and an outside law firm has been hired to conduct it.

Offensive coordinator Ryan Day is serving as the acting head coach for the Buckeyes, who host Oregon State on September 1 in the season opener. "We look forward to sharing the results of this investigation and any action the university may take", Davidson said in the statement. He was never charged.

What Meyer knew and when he knew it became a question after college football writer Brett McMurphy reported that Courtney Smith had told Meyer's wife Shelley about the 2015 incidents and shared pictures of injuries through text messages that she shared with McMurphy.

One of the rally's attendees was Stacy Elliot, the father of former OSU player and current Dallas Cowboy Ezekiel Elliott.

Smith was sacked at the end of July when college football reporter Brett McMurphy brought the allegations to light.

After initially denying any knowledge of the 2015 accusations against Zach Smith, Meyer has since recanted and now claims he followed protocol and told school officials. He also admitted lying to reporters about it.

The Buckeyes open their season September 1 at home against Oregon State.
