Lions Named As Potential Landing Spot For Raiders DE Khalil Mack

While that seems farfetched, Gutierrez notes that Mack's holdout has been "mystifying" to Oakland's front office.

Gutekunst never said Mack by name during his answer, but he caught himself from saying too much more.

The Rams could afford both Mack and defensive tackle Aaron Donald into the future, and would simply have to part ways with Ndamukong Suh after this season.

Any team that's willing to acquire Mack would presumably be willing to hand him a massive new contract.

Through the bulk of the offseason, the Oakland Raiders have had the lingering contract situation with star defensive end Khalil Mack hover overhead of the franchise. Is it the fact that the Raiders aren't extending him or the fact that he hasn't shown up on his fifth-year option? Maiocco said not only should they be, but that they should be reaching out to Oakland now to see what he'd cost. Mike Pettine would be able to deploy Mack in multiple packages and feel confident that he will be the best player on the field and turn the Packers defense into a championship caliber unit. After that, the team would be able to franchise tag him for two more seasons for high-end prices.

The Raiders are not rebuilding, so it makes no sense to give up on Mack, especially when you consider they'll want to be as competitive as possible when the team completes its relocation to Las Vegas in the near future.

For these reasons, I believe that the Packers should enter into serious negotiations with the Raiders if Mack is indeed on the trade block. From this standpoint, it is essential for the Raiders to bring back top value for Mack if they do in fact decide to trade him. The Packers could use Khalil Mack's salary demands as leverage to drive Oakland to lessen their demands in order for a resolution to take place.
