Kawhi Leonard finally breaks silence with Spurs goodbye

Kawhi Leonard has spoken!

He says he and his family (re: Uncle Dennis) want to thank the Spurs organization and "the people and fans of San Antonio".

Leonard popped up in Toronto to take a picture with Masai Ujiri after the trade was done and talk to the Raptors brass about playing for the team, but still avoided offering any public statements as Ujiri held the trade press conference alone. Spurs doctors cleared him to return, but Leonard's own team did not, and as Leonard sat, his relationship with the Spurs grew colder.

In Thursday morning's episode of 'Get Up!' on ESPN, Jay Williams says he's not buying it. Williams believes that Leonard's camp has to do some image fix for their star who was cast as the villain ever since he declined to play for the Spurs despite getting clearance from the medical staff. He will have the ability to do so when he becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season, unless the Raptors can sell him on a long-term future in Toronto.

"San Antonio, I have been going back and forth the last few weeks trying to figure out the right things to say, and it comes down to two simple words: THANK YOU!" For his career, the former 2013-14 Finals MVP averages 16.3 points per game to go along with 6.2 rebounds.

Leonard has one year and a player option left on his current deal and is set to make $20.1 million in 2018-19.

THANK YOU Pop I'll always be grateful for my growth under your guidance.

"Through all the ups and downs - I'm glad there were many more ups!"

He also thanked the city of San Antonio, his former teammates and the fans.

THANK YOU to the fans! - I'll never forget what we have shared and accomplished together.
