ACC Basketball Coach Reportedly Involved In Death Of New York Tourist

Jamill Jones, 35, was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of Sandor Szabo, of Boca Raton, Florida.

Police charged a Wake Forest assistant basketball coach Thursday with assault in connection with an incident Sunday that resulted in the death of a man in NY.

Jones, who has been on Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning's staff since May 2017, reportedly turned himself in to police Thursday morning while accompanied by a lawyer.

Wake Forest University officials tell WFMY News 2 they will release a statement later this evening. Szabo apparently knocked on Jones' window and police say Jones got out of the vehicle and punched Szabo.

Jamill Jones allegedly slugged Boca Raton marketing professional Sandor Szabo so hard on Sunday that he fell backward, hit his head on the concrete and lost consciousness.

Jones was released on his own recognizance and ordered to return to court October 2. "We won't be making any further comments". He was treated for fractures to the left side of his face and the rear of his skull, along with bleeding of the brain. "Mr. Jones and his family, their deepest condolences go out to the Szabo family". He was taken off life support Tuesday afternoon. He appeared in court in New York City on Thursday and faces a third degree assault charge. Jones started his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Team Takeover AAU program after graduating from Arkansas Tech in 2008. His family says he was visiting NY from Boca Raton, Florida, for a wedding.

Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning said at the time that Jones was a "well-respected bright mind" in the coaching world and brought "new blood" and "new perspectives" to Wake Forest. "We are going to miss him dearly".
