Jose Mourinho: Man Utd boss 'not confident' of deadline day signing

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason isn't buying into Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho's complaints about a lack of transfer activity this summer, by claiming that the Portuguese coach already has a strong enough squad.

"The players who replaced others did not perform at a good level and, when individuals do that, it is hard for the team to play well", he said after the game against Chris Hughton's side.

Mourinho has repeatedly expressed a desire to bring in additional signings throughout pre-season with a central defender top of his list.

They're still in the market to sign a centre-back but the transfer window shuts today at 5pm.

"I am not confident".

Mourinho's dark mood that became the norm last season took a turn for the worse as he grumpily moved around America on United's pre-season tour, with his press conference appearances doing little to banish the notion that he fears his time in what was described as his "dream job" may soon come to an end.

Castles said: "Everton, I'm told, have agreed a fee with Barcelona".

Mourinho revealed he will be without six senior players for the game against Leicester.

'Ander Herrera injured against Bayern, Matic injured in the World Cup and surgery in Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago.

Mourinho will have to decide whether or not to pick Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Ashley Young and Marouane Fellaini against Leicester after they returned from post-World Cup break on Monday.

Marcus Rashford, Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku returned early and should be available.

"They return on Monday, trained Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and today so you can imagine that they are not really fit and ready but we have needs", Mourinho said.

"They've even still thinking about what would have to be a world-record bid to sign Harry Maguire".
