Milan are favourites to secure the signing of free-agent Bernard, although they reportedly need to offload players before the deal can be confirmed.

The Brazilian midfielder left Shakhtar Donetsk when his contract expired this summer, attracting attention from Chelsea and West Ham.

Blues duo Marco Silva and Marcel Brands are hard at work trying to lure other targets - notably a new centre-back - to Goodison Park before Thursday's 11pm transfer deadline.

The Brazil worldwide brings with him a wealth of club and global experience, as well as a winner's mentality having won the Ukrainian League and Ukrainian Cup three times during his time with Shakhtar.

Bernard can play in various attacking midfield roles or just behind the striker and was one of the most sought after acquisitions of this window. Although a Brazilian worldwide, Bernard hasn't featured for the national team since the 7 - 1 World Cup semi-final humiliation at the hands of Germany.

Bernard also has global experience and has made 14 appearances for the Selecao since 2012.

Bernard's arrival will also pave the way for Yannick Bolasie to depart Goodison Park, with former club Crystal Palace among those now interested.
