TJ Dillashaw KO’s Cody Garbrandt To Retain The Bantamweight Title

With a decisive first-round knockout in the main event of UFC 227, TJ Dillashaw may have put his rivalry with Cody Garbrandt to rest, as he successfully defended his UFC bantamweight title for the first time with a second finish of his former training partner at Los Angeles' STAPLES Center. The 135-pound title fight was an immediate rematch of a bout at UFC 217 in November, which Dillashaw won via TKO in the second frame.

Garbrandt, originally of Uhrichsville, Ohio, went undefeated for four years before suffering his first loss to Dillashaw. "I'm going up and I want that belt too". "America is all about winners and the victor of this next fight, I want to fight that guy".

The fight didn't start out in Cejudo's favor as he appeared to turn an ankle in the opening round and limped at times as Johnson continued to switch stances and score with strikes from the outside. "I want to fight a top middleweight at UFC 230", said Santos. Demetrious is fast man.

Not only did Cejudo shake off the pain of his lower left leg, he relied on his size and grappling ability to begin to build a case on the scorecards in Round 2 by turning a relatively uneventful round in his favor late by pushing the pace and taking Johnson down before using his weight to lay all over him until the horn.

Highest high: His win over Cody the first time around was wonderful, don't get me wrong, but despite the late-career highs he has been able to reach, his first victory over Renan Barao was a truly legendary performance and one that virtually no-one saw coming. When Dillashaw was told of Cejudo's challenge, he replied: "Henry Cejudo!". For years, even while on the sidelines, Cruz was seen as one of the finest fighters the sport has ever known - utilizing a unique footwork system that baffled some of the best 135lb-rs on the planet. "I got a little excited when I should have slowed down and finished him, but I got the job done". I could tell that Cody was already hurt when we started that exchange and then I lined up the shot. I really believe that. He's just a big dude and he's strong.
