Southeast Asia seek cybersecurity deal with Russian Federation after series of hacks

China says the United States is trying to stop the rise of a competitor and it has imposed its own tariffs on USA goods. Moscow has denied involvement.

Many Southeast Asian countries have been unsure of United States economic policy towards the region since President Donald Trump won a 2016 election promising to put "America First".

It was the first stop of his Asian tour, focused on promoting free trade and pressuring North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons.

Their talks came after Washington imposed sanctions on two Turkish ministers over the trial of a USA pastor accused of backing terrorism. Turkey says the sanctions are unacceptable.

Pompeo and Mevlut Cavusoglu met on the sidelines of a meeting of regional ministers in Singapore. Pretty straightforward. They've been holding these folks for a long time.

Turkey has also detained three Turkish employees of the US consulate in Istanbul.
